I'm not a Trekkie so much any more; I gave up being obsessed with it a long time ago. That's not to say I haven't seen every episode of Star Trek, ST: TNG, or DS9, 'cause I have, just not in a while. But I dearly loved the Trek series when I was younger, and the thought of them still brings back dreams of being an astronaut, and optimism that maybe someday the human race will actually get it right. Star Trek had episodes that I still remember and cherish - The Measure of A Man, from TNG's second season, remains among my top five from any series - storylines with issues that made me think, and characters that I really enjoyed getting to know. One of my favorites was Scotty, the engineer from the original series. So I was saddened to read on wilwheaton.net that James Doohan, the actor who portrayed Montgomery Scott, passed away yesterday.
One of the other people who tracked back to WWdN shares a wonderful story about him, something much more eloquent than I could ever write. I also never had the fortune to meet this wonderful man. He'll be missed. Shalom to his family, and may his memory be for a blessing.
